Well I didn't plan on not blogging for a month, but then life happened and well here I am a month later with my first post since February 1st . . . and all I have to say is that I MISSED YOU GUYS!
On another note - I hope all y'all had a great February! I can't believe it's already over . . . I know that I say this at the end of every month, but time is just FLYING BY. I mean, let's just slow down PLEASE!
March & April are going to be busy for us - how about y'all? What's everyone got going on this month?
I'm so excited for March + April - I just love Spring, it makes me so happy.
But let's talk spring in a little bit, first I want to share a quick story and remind you girls (and guys, too!) to be safe . . . I know this isn't the most exciting post, but it's an important one and yesterday I was reminded of how useful some of this information is.
So do me a favor: Hear me out, read through this post and make sure that you know and have the tools to keep you safe and aware.
Yay! Let's get to it!
So yesterday I was just out walking when a car pulled up to me and a man rolled down his window and started to say something to me. I just put my head down kept on walking and tried to ignore him. When I looked behind me I saw him pulling into a parking spot behind me so I began walking a little faster and walked into a nearby store and when I did that he pulled out of the spot and pulled right in front of the store and sat there for a good minute just watching me.
I was freaked out and so I stayed in the store and just wandered around until he left. I watched closely to see when he pulled away, but was unable to see where he went. I was honestly worried that he was parked somewhere just watching and waiting for me to leave the store and since I had walked there the only option I had was to walk home and honestly, I wasn't about to do that.
So I wandered around the store for a bit and actually let one of the sales associates know what was going on and she had called mall security to come and take a look. I ended up calling a friend of mine who I knew was working at a store just a couple blocks away and she actually came, picked me up and dropped me off at home.
I did call the police, not 911 but the non emergency number and told them about the incident. The one thing they told me that I wanted to pass on to you here is that if you ever feel uncomfortable in a situation like this one, you should always call 911. They'll send cops out to your location immediately - even if you feel silly, or feel like it could be nothing they told me to still call. It's better to be safe than sorry, friends.
Thankfully nothing happened yesterday. But it reminded me of how easily something could happen and how we should always be aware and know what to do if we're ever in a situation like this.
So today I'm sharing some tips and tools that I have to make me feel a little safer.
This app is called SafeTrek and I have it on my phone - thankfully I have never had to use it, so I can't speak from experience but I have read many of the reviews and they are GREAT. It does cost 2.99/month, but it is honestly 100% worth it even if you never use it. Simply knowing you have it gives you a piece of mind.
It's super easy to use - basically, if you ever feel unsafe or like something could happen, you open up the app and the first screen is the screen with the button. You hold down the button until you feel unsafe or out of control and want to alert the police. If you no longer want to alert the police, you have 5 or so seconds to put in your personal code that will disarm the alert, however if you don't put in your code it will automatically call 911 and send the police to your location.
I love this app, because it is so easy and effective. I would HIGHLY recommend downloading it and having it on your phone as a resource.
The picture is pretty self explanatory for this one - screenshot this and remember it!
Walking AGAINST Traffic
Okay, this one may seem obvious to some of you - but I didn't know it and my dad told me yesterday so I'm sharing it with all of you. It's simple, but possibly life changing.
You always want to walk AGAINST traffic, meaning walking in the opposite direction that cars are going. Doing this makes it a lot harder for someone to follow you. If you are walking with traffic it is easy for someone to continue following you, but if your walking against traffic than it makes it more difficult, because they have to turn around to make it back to you.
Change Up Your Route
If you walk, bike, run or do anything outside, don't always go on the same route. Mix it up so that you're not always doing the same thing. People take notice when someone walks the same path everyday. Also, switch the days and times that you walk, run, etc. Don't keep it consistent!
Talk to Someone on the Phone
This is a big one for me - I am always talking to someone on the phone when I'm walking. Honestly most of the time it is just because I like to talk when I walk, but other times it is to make me feel safe. Sometimes I am actually using my phone and have it up to my ear and other times I use headphones. If I use headphones I always only have ONE ear in, so that I can hear traffic, people, etc. And if I am on my phone, I am constantly looking around at my surroundings and watching what happens.
Talking to someone gives me peace of mind just knowing that if something ever were to happen that I'd most likely be on the phone right up until anything happened.
DON'T KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN LOOKING AT YOUR PHONE
This one is in caps, because it is so important, especially in the society we live in today. We are so consumed with our phones and it is so easy to scroll Facebook or Instagram as we're out walking, but don't do it. People seek out those who are distracted and less likely to notice something coming.
Don't be Afraid to Call 911
I know for me, sometimes I feel like I am overreacting or that I'm freaking out over nothing. I was seriously freaked out yesterday, but I didn't call 911 because I honestly thought that there were more important issues to tend to and I was also in what I considered a nice, safe area so I figured it'd be fine.
I probably should have called 911 and let them know right away so they could've come and checked it out. But my point is to not be afraid to call 911 - that's what they are there for.
In any situation if you are able to, do your best to get any details you can. Look at the persons face, their car, LICENSE PLATE, if anyone is with them, etc.
ALL of these things help and are important to give to the police to help them identify a person.
. . .
Alright y'all . . . like I said, I know that it wasn't the most exciting post today, but I hope that it can help someone out there and give you a little more sense of security.
Check back on Friday when we're going to be chatting all about SPRING!
Stay safe, friends!!

My goodness - is it just me or does it feel like January seriously just flew by in the blink of an eye? I feel like Christmas was just yesterday . . . however it wasn't and here we are already in February!
And today I am SO EXCITED because I have some fun + FREE goodies for all y'all!
But first a little backstory - I LOVE handwritten letters and notes. I think there is something so romantic about writing a handwritten letter to someone you love. When Taylor and I were dating he would write me little notes all the time - some were short and sweet like 'have a great day - I love you!" while others were longer and more sentimental. I LOVED whenever I found a note from him, it was something so simple but had such an impact on me.
We still write notes here and there, but not like we used to and perhaps it's because we just get caught up in our everyday life and simply forget. However, the other day Taylor stuck a little note in my purse and when I found it I was instantly reminded of the joy and romance that comes from a simple folded up piece of paper.
As we enter into this new season, one that is centered around love, I decided that I wanted to get back into the art of handwritten letters + notes. So this past week I sat down and designed a series of what I am calling 'Just Because Notes' that are meant for just that - a note to your loved one just because.
I believe that unexpected, just because notes are often the best and most cherished ones. Sometimes there is nothing better than finding a note that says I love you from the person you love most in the midst of a hard day. It's such a simple gesture with an impact that could change the world.
I designed this collection of cards with Taylor in mind and I honestly loved them so much that I really wanted to share them with all of you. They are perfect for when you want to write a sweet little something for your babe - You can simply print them off, store them away and when you feel like writing a sweet note to your loved one you simply pick one out, write your note on the back and surprise them!
So simple and yet so profound.
Taylor + I have a box here that holds all of our notes and letters to each other and although we don't open it often, when we do I feel my heart explode in joy and my mind fill up with memories all because of these little notes that we wrote to each other over the years.
My hope is that these notes bring a smile to your face and give you the opportunity to spread some love to those you hold nearest and dearest to you.
I've made it super easy for you to get the cards - To download, simply click the download link and you will automatically receive a PDF document that is ready to print - once printed, cut along the dotted line and you're all set!
Oh and WAIT!
